EVENT: 'PLANET WOMEN' EXHIBITION
Alliance Française de Gaborone in partnership with Studio 54 held a photography competition exhibition last Friday that saw photographers capture through their lens, a “Planet Women.” The aim of this competition was to show images of women in/on the world.
With photographers capturing women of various walks of life from women in entertainment to mothers and more, the competition helped many upcoming photographers get a platform to share their art with the public. Congratulations to the top 5 chosen.
HAUS OF KINGS had the chance to speak to one of the photographers, Thabo Makgato (pictured above) who received 4th place in the competition. His work was inspired by young women in media, and this is what he had to share with us on his love for photography and what its done for him. Saying that “life is beautiful, photographers capture the beautiful moments that already exist." Although he's only been doing photography for a year now, he has already done work for ONBOARD Magazine, The Weekend Post, and private clients that range from designers to modelling agencies. We at HOK salute him and wish him the very best with his endeavours!
EVENT: PARAISO EXPRESS SPA P ART 1 EXHIBITION LAUNCH
Over the weekend Paraiso Express Spa and Tea Garden hosted and launched an art exhibition appropriately named P ART 1 EXHIBITION. Described as a "modern contemporary art exhibition", the art work comprised of "stencils, paintings and realistic pencil drawings" from artists Rosy Sbrana, Marc McCarthy and Paul McCarthy.
I attended the official launch on Saturday with a couple of friends. As you entered you were turned into a "star" with a red carpet leading to complimentary drinks. Making our way around the exhibition, there were art works of supermodel Kate Moss, rapper/mogul Jay-Z, hearts, nude portraits, and many more. With a warm and welcoming atmosphere, the night under the stars turned out to be an event I thoroughly enjoyed.
If you weren't there fear not as the exhibition will end on the 8th of October. Be sure to check it out. I'm sure I'll attend it once more before it ends.
Sunday 14th August, Botswana Fashion Week 2011 organised a promo shoot for the build up to the show in conjunction with Cresta Lodge's 20th Anniversary held at Cresta Lodge. Models, photographers, designers, make-up artists and many more were all present at this shoot / meet-and-greet that also saw talent scouts Gemstones MTM Group come to the shoot. The day included a lot of laughter, pictures, and poses. Peep the rest to see how the day went.
EVENT: F.E.T.I.S.H JEWELLERY VIEWING
Last night I attended the F.E.T.I.S.H jewellery viewing hosted by Silver Mystique Jewellery. As the bubbly kept flowing and the good vibes filled the atmosphere, we were treated to top jewellery brands that included Thomas Sabo, Pandora and Tiffany & Co. With all jewellery being sterling silver, imported from Italy, there were rings, earrings, pendents, bracelets and much more on display. What I loved about the jewllery was its top quality and affordable prices. I'm definitely looking forward to the next viewing.

This past week the annual Consumer Fair went down in the capital city of Botswana, Gaborone. Held at Fairgrounds Holdings, the fair is all about companies and independent sellers visually creating a platform to the public to raise awareness of their brands and allow buyers to come interact with them in an open area.
The fair is a great place to come with friends and family, to have fun under the sun as you explore various stalls, learn more about different cultures and dive into the corporate world. Attractions included media houses, rides, the market place, competitions, music, fashion and many more.
Peep the pictures to see what I'm talking about.
